“The Finnish Chamber orchestra is a result of a development that has taken place in the Finnish music culture during the past decades. The musicians are at the forefront of Finnish musicianship. Over the years the orchestra has become extremely dynamic demonstrating remarkable musical sensitivity."
-JUKKA-PEKKA SARASTE
The Finnish Chamber Orchestra, founded in 1990, is a vocation for its members. The musicians are in the forefront of Finnish orchestras: concertmasters and principals, prominent instructors, and freelance artists. These top musicians have gathered to work together in a unique ensemble where art comes before routine, and quality before compromise. The orchestra’s Artistic Director is violinist-conductor Jan Söderblom and the Artistic Advisor since the founding of the orchestra is Jukka-Pekka Saraste.
The Finnish Chamber Orchestra has also played under the baton of several other top-rated Finnish conductors including Paavo Berglund, Sakari Oramo, Okko Kamu, Ralf Gothóni, and Hannu Lintu.
The Finnish Chamber Orchestra functions primarily on private endorsement. The orchestra is in co-operation with a group of Finnish and international companies and is also funded by The City of Raseborg and The Arts Promotion Center Finland. As well as performing annually in southern Finland, the Finnish Chamber Orchestra has been the driving force behind the annual Tammisaari Summer Concerts since 2000.
Jan Söderblom
Jan Söderblom was born into a family of musicians in Helsinki in 1970. Now a conductor and violinist, he began giving concerts at an early stage in his violin studies.
Aside from solo appearances at a young age, successful touring with New Helsinki Quartet and his growing interest towards orchestral musicianship built the foundation for Söderblom's versatile and innovative career.
Conductor studies at Sibelius Academy (1997-2001) led to intensive projects with Finnish as well as other top orchestras.
As a violin soloist he has shared the stage with several Finnish orchestras as well as e.g. Swedish Radio Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and many others.
Söderblom has been the Artistic Director of several Finnish music festivals; alongside the Finnish Chamber Orchestra he is currently in charge of the artistic planning of the Festivo Rauma and Kauniainen Music Festival.
Söderblom has played as guest concertmaster for several orchestras and joined e.g. Camerata Salzburg and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra on stage as guest member. Since 2015 Söderblom is the first concertmaster of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.
